BLACK-TIE EVENT
Eric and Travis
When Big Brother Eric was set to get married, he knew he wanted his Little Brother Travis to be involved in the ceremony. After thinking about ring bearers, ushers, etc., it was decided that Travis’s role would be a unique one- reading 1st Corinthians 13:4-5 in front of 170 guests.
“When he was asked to come to the front he had a big smile, and I could tell he was proud to be a part of the wedding day. He ended with a short speech congratulating us both. He had no hesitation and did great speaking to the crowd,” shared Eric.
Not every hangout between these two is a black-tie event. Most often they enjoy attending the Big Brothers Big Sisters monthly events where they have been rock climbing, taken art lessons, visited a bee farm, and more. On their own time they enjoy going to breakfast on Saturday mornings, where even though it is early, Travis brings the energy.
“Energetic, outgoing, and compassionate,” shared Eric when asked how he would describe his Little Brother in three words. “These words came to mind because they are what Travis employs on a regular basis.”
At 12, Travis enjoys engaging with new people and regularly helps his family, demonstrating character and maturity- things that Eric believes are essential to personal development. For Eric’s personal development, he feels that being a Big Brother has had a positive impact on him as well.
“I have taken my experience with Travis to prepare for raising my own family in the future,” Eric reflected. “This program is an investment in a younger person and yourself. The time commitment is pretty minimal, but it has a big impact.”
